Hospital Director: Hiroko Shibanai, DVM.
Received a DVM degree from Nihon University in 1959, and has spent some years in academia before establishing Akasaka Animal Hospital in 1963. Pioneered JAHA's Companion Animal Partnership Program, a volunteer-based animal-assisted activities to visit children, handicapped and aged people with animals. Specialty includes orthopedic and soft tissue surgery.
Hospital Deputy Director: Akiko Shibanai, DVM.
Received a DVM degree from Nihon University in 1990, and has spent 3 years in a University to develop specialty in clinical pathology and internal medicine. Joined Akasaka Animal Hospital in 1993. Specialty includes general internal medicine and behavior therapy, and obedience/behavior counseling available with appointment.
Medical Director: Takuo Ishida, DVM, PhD, Diplomate JCVP
Received PhD from University of Tokyo in 1981, spent 3 years in University of California, Davis as a postdoctoral research fellow, and 12 years at a veterinary school as associate professor of clinical pathology before joining the hospital in 1998. Specialty includes feline medicine, cancer medicine, infectious, hematologic and immunologic diseases as well as internal medicine.
We have 9 other veterinarians, 11 veterinary technicians, 4 grooming specialists, and 3 receptionists. In addition to the in-hospital staff, we regularly consult with or invite noted specialists in veterinary schools in selected areas including radiology, cardiology, dentistry, ophthalmology and exotic pet medicine.
